Planning Forums

The SAMP project began with a series of public planning forums to elicit visions for the future of the Dragon Run Watershed and key issues of concern.

Advisory Group

From the public planning forums, key issues were identified and interested community members formed the Advisory Group. The Advisory Group has developed a mission statement and project goals and is formulating action plans to achieve those goals. The Advisory Group makes recommendations to the Dragon Run Steering Committee. During the development of its goals, the Advisory Group consisted of three working groups.

Local Government and Policy Work Group

This work group is charged with addressing issues related to local government policy and planning. It consists of local elected officials, local planning staff, landowners, non-profits, and state agency staff.

Traditional Uses and Habitat Management Work Group

This work group is charged with addressing issues related to farming, forestry, hunting, fishing, and ecology. It consists of landowners, farming and forestry representatives, non-profits, and state agency staff.

Educating the Public and Access Management Work Group

This work group is charged with addressing issues related to educating the public about the project and the Dragon Run Watershed and concerns related to public and private access.

Dragon Run Steering Committee

The Dragon Run Steering Committee is a formal committee of the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission. The Steering Committee consists of landowners and elected officials from each of the watershed's four counties - Essex, Gloucester, King and Queen, and Middlesex.
