This study explores both groundwater and surface water resources on the Middle Peninsula, and provides partial fulfillment of the agenda set by the Middle Peninsula Groundwater Study Committee. The GW committee was formed for the purpose of obtaining a greater understanding of groundwater issues, information needs, and management measures necessary to address local government concerns regarding the quantity and quality of drinking water. The group formed as an appointed committee of the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission, with members representing the counties of Essex, Gloucester, King and Queen, King William, Mathews, and Middlesex and the towns of Tappahannock, Urbanna, and West Point. The Drinking Water Action Plan is one of several methods used to carry out the goals of the GW committee.
