mpdcboat.jpg (7182 bytes)The Middle Peninsula PDC maintains this page in an effort to share resources among GIS software users across the State of Virginia.  GIS users can gain substantial knowledge from each other.  Often 'getting the job done' is a matter of obtaining the right methodology and/or scripts.  And frequently, someone before you has already spent the day frustrated in front of the monitor, has derived a solution and is more than willing to share.

A compilation of scripts, extensions and other software is now available from this site for GIS mapping, database development and map production.  If you have any questions regarding how to use these tools or how to download them, please see  email me.

Also, if you would like to add a script that you use and think may be helpful to others, click here.

Arc View® 3.x extensions

XTools.  Developed by the Oregon State Department of Forestry, this extension adds useful functionality to Arc View 3.x.   Many commands found in ARC/INFO are incorporated into the AV GUI as menus and button.  Features include the buffer function, clipping polygons, merging themes, intersecting themes, union and update.  This extension is available for both metric and standard units - available as two separate downloads.
Projector!.   Allows reprojection of themes within Arc View®.  Must know the source projection.

Arc View® Spatial Analyst Tools

Spatial Tools.  This extension, developed by the USGS - BRD Alaska Biological Science Center, provides several useful grid tools for spatial modeling and analysis.  You must have the Spatial Analyst extension loaded simultaneously.

Avenue® Scripts for Arc View 3.x and Spatial Analyst

gps2shape.ave - This scripts converts ASCII GPS data to Arc View shape files.
grid_cliptopoly.ave - Clips GRID datasets to the boundaries of polygon shape files.

Executable (DOS) files for Windows NT®

sdts2arc.zip - same as sdts.aml above.  The .exe file is for ARC/INFO on NT.
sdts2dem.zip - This .exe file converts SDTS to DEM for use in GRID and Spatial Analyst.
sdtsgrid.zip - Converts SDTS format to cell-based raster GIS.
