Community Forum: Farmland Preservation for the Future of the Middle Peninsula

On July 28th, friends, neighbors, and local officials met at Beale Memorial Baptist Church in Tappahannock for a Community Forum featuring. Jane Kirchner of the American Farmland Trust. Ms. Kirchner explained why we should save farmland and how it can be done. Concepts included protecting the best farmland, approaching growth and development with an eye towards agriculture, and keeping farmland healthy

Ms. Kirchner works with communities across the country to help build support for farm, ranch and forest land protection and develop land protection strategies. In her position as marketing specialist, she develops customized agriculture related planning projects, workshops, economic studies and other consulting services for communities to address farm, ranch and forest land protection needs. She recently completed a term on the Loudoun County Planning Commission, where she helped develop the Revised General Plan, the Revised 1993 Zoning Ordinance and other documents that drew national recognition for innovative growth management concepts and rural land protection.

The community forum was held in Beale Memorial Baptist Church in Tappahannock
