Slide notes:
HAZUS works much like an input-output model to estimate the potential impacts of earthquakes on our communities.

The input is in the form of information on the earthquake hazard, including data on ground motion and ground failure, and information on the nature of the built environment, including buildings, lifelines and critical facilities, and the characteristics of the population that works and resides in the study region.

Using quantitative measures to estimate the impacts of earthquakes on buildings, lifelines, and the population, the model provides outputs in four categories – direct physical, induced or secondary damages, social and economic losses, and long-term indirect economic losses.
